GOLF

Living a 5- minute walk from Carnoustie Championship Golf Courses necessitates an interest and participation in golf. Years of playing the Championship Course, which has destroyed most eminent golfers, ensures I retain a high handicap, and I now get more enjoyment by playing the slightly less challenging Burnside course.

Carnoustie has played the most unique and significant role in world golf. Well over 100 golf courses around the world  appointed Carnoustie men as their first teaching and playing professionals to start their clubs (Sons of Carnoustie).  The Carnoustie Golf Club is recognised as the official home of both the USA and Australian  PGA’s.

We hope at some time in the near future financial support will be obtained for the provision of a Carnoustie Heritage Centre to celebrate the achievements of our forefathers.  It is also hoped to launch a Global Golf Club (see logo in banner) which will allow its members from all over the world to compete regularly in international competition  against each other by playing on their own home courses and logging their stableford score centrally.

TRAVEL

Recreational travel around the world with my wife Linda is a major pastime.  We have great memories and photographs of  Machu Picchu and travel in Peru, cruising the Amazon in a rather run-down river boat, the marvels of China from Beijing to Xian to Shanghai and sailing the Yangtse, cruising the Volga from Moscow to St. Petersburg, enjoying Mongolia’s Nadaam festival and staying in Gers. We have also enjoyed  the wonders of Mayan and Aztec civilizations of Chichen Itza and Teotihuacan in Mexico, the beauties of Japan, excitement, sadness and history of Khmer people’s of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam as well as the  great variety of European life. We  particularly enjoy invading local restaurants and pubs in all these places.  Still plenty to do!
